2010 US Olympic Winter Games Figure Skating Team Selection

There is a limit of 148 athletes that may compete in figure skating at the 2010 winter olympics. There are spots for 74 male and 74 female figure skaters. Eligibility of individual skaters and the number of skaters from each country is determined by the International Olympic Committee. This process is complicated and is covered on a separate page.

For the United States, there are spots for each of the figure skating disciplines as follows:

The United States National Olympic Committee in conjunction with the United States Figure Skating Association determines the skaters from the US that will participate in the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

Caydee Denney/Jeremy Barrett

Denney and Barrett are teh 2010 US Champions,. They paired up in June 2008 and won the silver medal at the 2009 U.S Nationals.

Amanda Evora/ Mark Ladwig

Evora and Ladwig are teh 2010 US Nationals silver medalists. They finished with a fourth-place finish in 2009

Jeremy Abbott

Abbott is the 2009 U.S. champion, 2008 Grand Prix Final champion and 2005 U.S. junior champion ... Captured the gold at 2009 Skate Canada and the 2008 Cup of China

Evan Lysacek

Lysacek is the 2009 World champion, the 2009 Grand Prix Final champion, a two-time World bronze medalist (2005-06), a two-time U.S. champion (2007-08)

Johnny Weir

Weir is a three-time U.S. champion (2004-06) and the 2008 World bronze medalist and on the 2001 World Junior championship

Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto

The most successful U.S. ice dancing team ever, Belbin and Agosto have won five U.S. championships, four World medals and the 2006 Olympic silver medal

Davis and White are the 2009 U.S., Four Continents and Grand Prix Final champions. They won the silver at the 2008 U.S. Championships.

Emily Samuelson and Evan Bates

Samuelson and Bates are the 2009 U.S. silver medalists and 2008 World Junior champions..They won the silver medal at the 2007 and 2008 Junior Grand Prix finals

Ladies
Rachael Flatt Mirai

Rachael Flatt

Rachael Flatt is the 2010 US National champion and the 2008 World Junior champion and a two-time U.S. silver medalist. She earned the silver medal at the 2006 U.S. Championships as a junior She captured the silver at the 2007 Junior GP Final.

Mirai Nagasu

Mirai Nagasu is the 2010 US National silver medalist and the 2008 U.S. champion. She is also the 2007 U.S. junior champion, 2007 Junior Grand Prix Final champion and a two-time World Junior medalist (silver in 2007, bronze in 2008).

2010 Winter Olympic Figure Skating Teams All Countries
 
Here is a excerpt form the USFS document "2010 Olympic Winter Games Athlete Selection Procedure ".

To field the most competitive team, U.S. Figure Skating's ICMS will take into consideration results from the events outlined below to determine athletes who will have the most performance impact at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. The ICMS, and the International Committee's approval process of the ICMS' recommendations, will take into consideration placement and competitive field at the following events in priority order:

b. 2009/10 ISU Senior Grand Prix Final
c. 2009 World Figure Skating Championships
d. 2009 Four Continents Figure Skating Championships
e. 2009 World Junior Figure Skating Championships
f. 2009/10 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final

Some of these completions have not yet taken place, including two of the highest priority events. We will update those events when they occur. Here are the dates for these competitions
